What the number looks like
International postal items use the 13-character UPU format: two letters, nine digits (the last is a check digit) and the country code, so parcels posted in China end in CN. EMS numbers start with E, for example EA…CN.

What the statuses mean
| Status | What it means |

| Posted / Accepted | China Post or EMS has accepted the parcel. |
| Departed from the office of exchange | The parcel has cleared export and left China. |
| Arrived at the office of exchange | The parcel has reached the destination country's postal service and waits for import clearance. |
| Held by customs | Customs needs information or payment before release; the destination post usually contacts the receiver. |
| Out for delivery / Delivered | The destination postal service is delivering, or has delivered, the parcel. |
On our routes
EMS is one of our express channels for documents and small parcels. After it leaves China, the destination's postal service delivers it with the same number: USPS in the United States, Royal Mail in the UK, Deutsche Post in Germany.

Can I track a China Post parcel on the USPS website?
Yes. Once the parcel reaches the United States, USPS tracks it with the same 13-character number ending in CN. 17TRACK shows both the China and the USPS part in one view.
Why has my EMS parcel not updated since it left China?
Between leaving the office of exchange in China and the destination's first scan, the parcel is in flight and in handover between postal services, which can take several days without a new scan. If there is no update after about a week, send us the number.
