Shipping from China: questions and answers

Straight answers on how freight is charged, how long each route takes, duties and documents, special goods, Amazon FBA and tracking — the same answers our coordinators give.

Pricing & chargeable weight

How is air freight charged?

By chargeable weight: the greater of actual weight and volumetric weight. Volumetric weight = length × width × height (cm) ÷ 6,000 for air freight, or ÷ 5,000 for express. Per-kg rates drop at higher weight breaks. Sea freight is charged per cubic metre.

Are the prices on your website final?

No. Online estimates use the general-cargo rates published on our site and are for reference. Market changes, surcharges, remote areas and the goods themselves can change the price, so your coordinator confirms the final price and schedule in writing before you ship.

Is there a minimum weight for your published rates?

Yes. Published air rates start from 22 kg chargeable weight to the USA, Canada and Australia and from 11 kg to New Zealand; the China–Europe rail line starts from 26 kg. Express is priced per 0.5 kg, and per kg from 21 kg, so it suits smaller parcels.

How is LCL charged?

Per cubic metre, or per 1,000 kg when the cargo is heavier (whichever is greater), plus origin and destination charges.

LCL or FCL — which should I choose?

Under roughly 15 CBM, LCL is usually cheaper; above that a 20' container often wins. LCL is charged per cubic metre, or per 1,000 kg when the cargo is heavier. Tell us your volume and we'll price both, or read LCL vs FCL.

When should I choose express instead of air freight?

Express suits samples, documents and small parcels that need to arrive fast, with door-to-door tracking on DHL, FedEx, UPS, TNT or EMS. For larger shipments, send us the weight and destination and we'll compare express with air freight for you.

Which currency are your rates in?

The rate tables on our site are in Chinese yuan (RMB) per chargeable kg. Your written quote states the currency and payment terms for your shipment.

Can you arrange cargo insurance?

Yes. We arrange cargo insurance alongside customs declaration for air and ocean shipments. Tell us the goods value and route, and the cover and premium are confirmed with your quote.

Which airports can my cargo fly from?

Most shipments depart Shenzhen or Hong Kong. We also book from Guangzhou, Shanghai, Beijing and other Chinese airports, airport-to-airport, door-to-airport or door-to-door — whichever gives the best route and price.

Customs, duties & documents

Do you handle customs clearance and HS codes?

Yes. Our customs team handles export and import declarations and inspection, pre-classifies your products with the right HS codes and pays duties on your behalf. Send us the product name, material and use, and we'll confirm the duty rate before you ship; the import duty calculator gives a first estimate.

How do I find my HS code?

Send us the product name, material and use. We'll pre-classify it and tell you the duty rate that applies before you ship.

What documents do I need to ship from China?

Usually a commercial invoice and a packing list from the seller, plus the bill of lading (sea) or air waybill (air) issued for the shipment. Batteries, liquids and powders also need an MSDS, and lithium batteries a UN38.3 test summary. Importers in the EU and UK need an EORI number. We prepare the export declaration from your invoice and packing list; see the documents checklist.

What is DDP, and which lines include it?

DDP (Delivered Duty Paid) means the price includes customs clearance, duties and import taxes, so the goods arrive without a separate tax bill. Our China–Europe rail line is DDP: 16–19 days by rail, then UPS delivery, at about a third of the air price. For other lines, your quote states exactly what is included.

How do US tariffs affect my shipment?

US tariffs on goods from China change often and depend on the HS code: the general HTS rate on the FOB value, plus China-specific duties such as Section 301, and the $800 de minimis exemption no longer applies. The US import duty calculator gives the general rate and our US customs guide explains the rest; send us your HS code and we'll confirm the total before you ship.

What about EORI and VAT?

For Amazon FBA and e-commerce shipments we provide VAT-compliant customs clearance in Europe. Tell us your EORI/VAT status and we'll recommend the right line — the China–Europe rail line is fully DDP. Import VAT is charged at the destination country's rate on the CIF value plus duty, and since 1 July 2026 goods up to €150 sold to consumers pay €3 duty per item; the EU import duty calculator estimates duty and VAT for your code.

Do I need an EORI number to import into the UK?

Commercial imports into Great Britain need a GB EORI number. Import VAT (standard rate 20 %) and any customs duty are due on arrival unless the line is DDP — our China–Europe rail line is. Send us your EORI/VAT status and HS codes and we'll confirm the duties before you ship; our UK import tax calculator estimates duty and VAT from the UK Trade Tariff, and the UK import guide covers postponed VAT accounting.

Do I need an EORI number to import into Germany?

Commercial imports into Germany need an EU EORI number. Import VAT (Einfuhrumsatzsteuer, standard rate 19 %) and any customs duty are due on arrival unless the line is DDP — our China–Europe rail line is. Send us your EORI/VAT status and HS codes and we'll confirm the duties before you ship; the comparison table on our homepage estimates EU duty by HS code.

What import tax applies in Japan?

Japan charges consumption tax on imports at a standard 10%, on the CIF value plus any duty; the duty itself depends on the HS code. Our homepage comparison table links the Japan Customs tariff, and our team confirms the total for your goods.

What taxes apply when importing into Canada?

Most imports pay 5% GST, and some provinces add their own sales tax; duty depends on the HS code. Canada values goods for duty without the international freight. Our Canada import guide covers GST and HST, CARM registration and the CAD 20 parcel threshold, and our team confirms the total.

What import taxes apply in Australia?

Shipments valued over A$1,000 need an import declaration and pay customs duty, which is often free for goods with a ChAFTA certificate of origin, plus 10% GST on the customs value, the duty, and freight and insurance to Australia. Our Australia import guide covers the charges and the A$1,000 rule.

Are duties and GST included in your New Zealand air rates?

No. The published rates, from 11 kg to Auckland, the North Island and the South Island, are for general goods and exclude duties and GST (15%). We confirm what applies to your goods with the quote.

Who pays import duties on express shipments?

Usually the receiver pays import duties and taxes on delivery. Tell us the destination and goods, and we'll confirm what applies.

Batteries, magnets & liquids

Can you ship products with batteries, magnets or liquids?

Our published rates are for general cargo. Special goods need a check first: send us the product details (and the MSDS for batteries, liquids or powders) and we'll confirm whether and how it can ship, and at what price.

Can lithium batteries go by air?

Often, with the right paperwork and packing: a UN38.3 test summary, an MSDS, correct labels and, under IATA rules, lithium-ion batteries shipped on their own, or (from 1 January 2026) packed with equipment, at no more than 30% state of charge. Acceptance differs by airline and express carrier, so send us the battery specifications and we'll confirm the route and price. More in our batteries, magnets and liquids guide.

Can you ship cosmetics, liquids or powders?

Many can, after a check. Send the product details and the MSDS; for air freight from China an air transport condition identification report is often requested as well. Flammable or otherwise dangerous goods may need a dangerous-goods service or sea freight instead.

Amazon FBA

Which Amazon marketplaces do you serve?

The US, Canada, Japan, Australia, and Europe including the UK, Germany, the Netherlands, France, Czechia, Poland, Italy and Spain. Send your FC code for an exact price.

How long does FBA shipping from China take?

To the USA, air reaches LAX in 7–9 days and sea reaches Los Angeles / Long Beach in 14–16 days, then UPS or FedEx delivers to the Amazon warehouse. Japan is 4–5 days by air and 7–9 by sea; Europe is 16–19 days by DDP rail plus UPS delivery. Customs, delivery and Amazon's receiving add time.

Can you label my cartons for FBA?

Yes. Send us your FBA shipment labels and we'll label cartons before dispatch. Our overseas warehouses can also relabel stock already abroad.

Can you deliver to Amazon warehouses in Japan?

Yes. After the goods arrive in Tokyo or Osaka, our own trailers take them to our warehouses in Tokyo, Osaka and Tosu (Saga) and deliver to Amazon on the booked appointment date. The warehouses also handle storage, returns and relabeling.

Which Amazon warehouses in Australia do your air rates cover?

Published air rates, from 22 kg, cover Amazon BWU1, BWU2 and BWU6 (Sydney), MEL1 and MEL5 (Melbourne), BNE1 (Brisbane) and PER2, PER3 and PER4 (Perth), and other Australian addresses priced by postcode.

Do your Canada rates cover business addresses as well as Amazon?

Yes. Published air rates, from 22 kg, cover Amazon fulfillment centers near Toronto (YYZ), Vancouver (YVR), Calgary (YYC), Edmonton (YEG) and Ottawa (YOW), and business addresses across Canada. UPS express from Hong Kong suits samples and smaller parcels.

Warehousing & consolidation

Can you collect from several suppliers and ship everything together?

Yes. We arrange pickup from your suppliers, or they deliver to our warehouse in Shenzhen. Goods from several suppliers are checked, repacked and relabeled if needed, then consolidated into one shipment. Any free storage period and its conditions, along with handling charges, are confirmed with your quote.

Will my customers see who my suppliers are?

No. We ship the consolidated orders as one shipment and keep your suppliers' details confidential. Cartons can also be relabeled before they leave our warehouse.

Why route through Hong Kong?

Hong Kong has more international flights and sailings to many destinations, which can mean faster departures and better rates.

China–Europe rail

Rail, air or sea to Europe — which should I choose?

Air is fastest: direct consolidations can arrive in 4–7 days. Sea is cheapest for large volumes, at 22–25 days to port. Rail sits in between: 16–19 days by rail plus UPS delivery, duties and taxes paid, at about a third of the air price.

Which countries does the China–Europe rail line cover?

26 European countries, including the UK, Germany, France, the Netherlands, Italy, Spain and Poland, with published rates from 26 kg. Delivery to Amazon warehouses is available in Germany, France, Czechia, Poland, the Netherlands, Italy and Spain.

Tracking

How do I track my shipment from China?

Enter the carrier tracking number on our tracking page; it opens 17TRACK, which covers DHL, UPS, FedEx and more than 1,000 carriers. For XINTING waybill numbers, message your coordinator for the live status and ETA.

Why hasn't my tracking updated for a few days?

Tracking updates when the cargo is scanned: pickup, departure, arrival, customs and delivery. During a flight connection, a sailing or customs clearance there can be several days without a new scan. Consolidated air and sea shipments often show milestones only, so ask your coordinator if you need the detail.

Can I track YunExpress, Cainiao or AliExpress parcels here?

Yes. The tracking form recognises YunExpress numbers (YT and 16 digits) and the Cainiao numbers used for AliExpress orders (LP and 12–16 digits), and opens them on 17TRACK, which follows the parcel through to the local delivery carrier. These are other carriers' services; for shipments we handle, use the number your coordinator sends you.
