Optional. Included in the customs value where duty is charged on CIF.

Duties and landed cost

Enter an HS code and the goods value to see duties and taxes.

Reference only: rounding, additional duties and customs valuation can change the amounts, and customs decides. Local clearance, port and delivery charges are not included.

How the duty calculator works

The duty rate comes from the official tariff for your HS code: the UK Trade Tariff for Great Britain, the EU's Common External Tariff (via TARIC) for EU countries, the US Harmonized Tariff Schedule for the United States and China's customs tariff for imports into China. For other countries we link the official tariff and apply the standard import VAT or GST.

StepHow it is calculated
Customs valueGoods + freight and insurance (CIF: EU, UK, Japan, China) or goods only (FOB: USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand)
Import dutyCustoms value × the duty rate for the HS code
Import VAT or GST(Customs value + duty) × the standard rate; Australia and New Zealand also add freight and insurance
Landed costGoods + freight + duty + VAT, before local charges

Goods made in China can also pay additional duties in some markets, the United States above all; the result shows the notes the official tariff gives. Read our guide to HS codes and landed cost for a worked example, or ask our customs team to pre-classify your products.

Import rules by country

The EU, UK and US calculator pages are preset for those markets and explain what each adds. Our guides cover the rules in full for the UK, the USA, Canada and Australia.

FAQ

Which countries does the duty calculator look up automatically?

The United Kingdom, EU countries, the United States, and China for imports. For other destinations it links the official tariff and adds the standard import VAT or GST, so you can read the duty rate there.

Why is US duty on goods from China higher than the calculator's base rate?

The calculator shows the general (column 1) rate from the US tariff. Goods made in China can also pay additional duties, such as Section 301 measures, which change often. Our team confirms the total for your product before you ship.

Is the freight cost included in the duty?

In CIF countries such as the EU, the UK, Japan and China, yes: freight and insurance are part of the customs value. The USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand charge duty on the goods value alone.
