EU import duty and VAT calculator for goods from China

The calculator starts with Germany; choose any other EU country in the list. Enter the HS code or product name, the goods value and the freight to the EU border: it looks up the EU duty rate and adds that country's import VAT.

HS code or product name

Optional, for duties and taxes. Type a code, or a product name in Chinese or English and pick a match.

Optional. Included in the customs value where duty is charged on CIF.

Duties and landed cost

Enter an HS code and the goods value to see duties and taxes.

Reference only: rounding, additional duties and customs valuation can change the amounts, and customs decides. Local clearance, port and delivery charges are not included.

How the calculator works it out

  1. Customs value: the goods value plus the freight and insurance you enter.
  2. Import duty: the customs value × the EU rate for your HS code.
  3. Import VAT: the country's standard rate × (customs value + duty).
  4. Landed cost: goods, freight, duty and VAT, before clearance and delivery charges.

Some goods from China also carry anti-dumping or other measures, and some products have reduced VAT rates; the official notes for your code show them. Our guide to HS codes and landed cost has a worked example for Germany.

Parcels up to €150 in 2026

Council Regulation (EU) 2026/382 abolished the customs duty relief for consignments worth €150 or less. From 1 July 2026 until 1 July 2028, goods in such consignments sold to consumers in distance sales pay a temporary customs duty of €3 per item, an item being the goods in a consignment that share the same tariff classification, description and origin; after that, normal duty rates apply. A Union handling fee of €2 per item for distance sales is expected from 1 November 2026. Business shipments are not distance sales: without the relief, they pay the duty for their code.

Shipping to Europe with duties included

Our China–Europe rail line is duties paid: import duty, import VAT and UPS delivery are in the price, from ¥9.5/kg to Germany at 101 kg and over. LCL sea freight is delivered to your door with duty and VAT paid separately (DAP), and our air freight prices exclude destination customs clearance, so your quote states who pays. See the China–Europe route page, or ask our customs team to classify your products; you will need an EORI number to import in your own name.

FAQ

How is import duty calculated in the EU?

Add the transport and insurance to the EU border to the goods value to get the customs value, and multiply it by the EU duty rate for the goods' code. Import VAT is then charged at the destination country's rate, such as 19% in Germany, on the customs value plus the duty.

Is there still no duty on goods under €150 in the EU?

No. Council Regulation (EU) 2026/382 abolished the €150 customs duty relief. From 1 July 2026 until 1 July 2028, goods up to €150 sold to consumers pay a temporary duty of €3 per item; business shipments pay the duty for their code.

Which of your Europe routes include duty and VAT?

The China–Europe rail line is duties paid (DDP), with import duty, import VAT and UPS delivery in the price. LCL sea freight is delivered with duty and VAT paid separately (DAP), and air freight prices exclude destination clearance, so your quote states who pays.
